The village sits beside the springs of the Pamisos — the longest river in Messinia, rising from cold karst springs on the western slopes of Taygetos. The water is famously clear, and the pools are covered with white water lilies that are rare anywhere else in the Peloponnese, shaded by ancient plane trees.
It's a genuinely special place to have a few minutes from home: a spot for a quiet walk, a boat ride among the lilies, or fresh local trout at the tavernas by the water. The springs have drawn people since antiquity — a small sanctuary to the river-god Pamisos once stood here.
The capital of Messinia — a lively seaside city with a marina, a long beachfront, shops, restaurants, a hospital, schools and the region's main services.
